Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation (BICI) is a non-profit innovation platform jointly established by 13 Beijing-based universities in 2014, with offices in Silicon Valley, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong China. BICI is committed to building a three-in-one global collaborative innovation system for the R&D of technology, the fostering of industries and the training of talent. It strives to become a world-class global center of the origins of innovations, fostering emerging industries and innovative talent training.
In such areas as modern manufacturing, electronic information, new energy, medical devices, biomedicines and environmental protection, BICI has established a number of collaborative innovation centers for the integration of science, technology and industries. It has set up joint laboratories or centers with the world’s leading universities in the research of frontier technology. It has also set up its own engineering laboratories, built specialized engineering teams and cooperated with universities in the R&D of engineering technology. Through the arrangement for technology contributors to become shareholders and the transferring and licensing of technologies etc., BICI helps advance the commercialization of technology achievements and promotes economic and social development in a sustainable way.
BICI works with the world’s top universities to train postgraduate students in innovation and entrepreneurship. After finishing academic courses at university, students go on to take courses on innovation and entrepreneurship and receive practical training based on real projects at BICI, which constitutes a distinctive model for the specialized training of the talent in this field.
BICI set up the world’s first intellectual property fund to support the R&D of technologies and a transformation acceleration fund to support the commercialization of technologies, forming a capital chain to cover the entire innovation lifecycle and thus providing a safeguard for sustained high-level scientific research and transformation.
Drawing on the sci-tech and industrial strengths of different localities, BICI established special research institutes and commercialization bases in Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province, etc., which links high-end sci-tech resources from Beijing as well as from the rest of the world with the economic development needs of localities in an efficient way. BICI has also set in motion its overseas commercialization bases and given rise to a development pattern, in an initial stage, in which overall planning is done in Beijing, R&D is carried out globally and transformation is made nationally.
BICI has established cooperative ties with over 10 top universities in the world, brought together 70 first-rate scholars as its academic leaders and built an engineering team with about 200 members. Each year, about 50 world-class scientific research projects are implemented, transformation rate is over 60%, and the number of trained postgraduate students in innovation and entrepreneurship reaches 200. BICI has become a base for innovation and business startups shared by a group of world-renowned universities.
With “pursuing infinity and eternity through innovation and sharing” as its core concept and following a development mode where sci-tech innovation and institutional innovation act as its twin engines, BICI endeavors to become an explorer in the development of innovation and education reform of the new era.

北京协同创新研究院(简称“协同院”)是首都13所大学于2014年联合创建的公益性创新平台，在硅谷、英国、中国香港设立分院，致力于构建全球化的“技术研发、产业培育、人才培养”三位一体协同创新体系，成为国际一流的全球化“原始创新策源中心、新兴产业培育中心、创新人才培养中心”。
围绕现代制造、电子信息、新能源、医疗器械、生物医药、环境保护等领域建成一批科学技术产业一体化的协同创新中心，依托全球顶尖大学设立联合实验室(中心)，研究前沿技术;自建工程技术实验室，组建专职工程技术团队，与大学联合研发工程技术;通过技术入股、技术转让或许可等形式，推动成果产业化，促进经济社会可持续发展。
与全球顶尖大学联合培养创新创业研究生，学生在大学学习专业理论课，在协同院学习创新创业课和以真实项目为基础进行实战训练，形成了独特的创新创业人才专业化培养模式。
组建全球首支知识产权基金支持技术研发，组建转化加速基金支持产业化，形成了覆盖全创新链的资金链，为持续开展高水平科研及转化提供了保障。
结合各地科技及产业优势，在广东、浙江等地建立特色研究院及产业化基地，将北京及国际的高端科技资源与地方经济发展高效结合，海外产业化基地也陆续启动，初步形成了“北京统筹、全球研发、全国转化”的发展格局。
目前，协同院与10多所全球顶尖大学建立了官方合作关系，聚集了70位世界一流学者担任学术带头人，组建了约200人的工程技术团队，每年实施约50项世界一流的科研项目，转化率超过60%，培养创新创业研究生约200人，成为了一批世界著名大学共同的创新创业基地。
协同院将秉承“因创新而无限，因共享而永恒”的核心理念，坚持科技创新与制度创新双轮驱动的发展模式，努力成为新时代创新发展和教育改革的探索者。
